Local tournament rules.
By: Paul FaubertI run the tournaments in our league for the 9U through 12U divisions. I've done this the past 4 years and each year we try and improve on soemthing. We have a skills contest every year with trophies (fastest man, throwing, HR Derby) for each division, we award player of the game certificates, and this year we'll be doing an all-tournament team.
My question is what good rules or things have you guys seen at tournaments that we can use? We currently use the 10 man batting order and allow free substitution with the EH (other subs use the Babe Ruth rule), and last year we went to allowing pitchers only 2 innings/game. This made it real easy to enforce pitching limits. I know you guys will hate this, but it's a great rule. I hated it when I first heard it until I saw it used in another tournament and then we added it to ours. It really makes the managers manage. Remember, these are local tournaments and nothing real major. We do have teams travel from out of state and so far everyone has loved this rule.
Anybody have any good ideas or suggestions?
